Google Analytics showed us important things about our audience & their behavior. We used that to get more engagement & better advertising.

  • Age & gender distribution: Decidedly “Boomer male”.
  • 60% of traffic is mobile.
  • The more frequently we post news stories, the more they read. This may sound obvious but it’s not.
  • Don’t put the answer in the title – Instead of “Inflation up 10%”, say “Whither inflation?”
  • Pretty girls and fisticuffs are appealing to “middle-aged males.” Who knew?
  • Our followers are weekday readers. We can slow our pace on weekends.
  • Stories at the very top were getting fewer than expected clicks. Traced to a mobile formatting bug.
